Established in 2018 as a not-for-profit organization, Yara showcases the success of women of Iranian heritage who will serve as role models for the next generation of Iranian-Canadian leaders. Yara also provides leadership tools to aspiring leaders and is entirely volunteer-run.

Yara hosted two sold out Yara Leadership Conferences in 2018 and 2019. The 2019 conference was featured on CityNews.
Yara will resume its speakers’ conferences when in-person events are safe to proceed.
Post-pandemic, Yara pivoted to free offer online programming. Launched in 2020, the Yara Dialogues are virtual fireside chats with with prominent leaders including Shohreh Aghdashloo, Nazanin Boniadi, Leena Yousefi, Shabnam Rezaei and many more leaders of Iranian heritage. Since 2020, Yara has produced seven Yara Dialogues which have garnered over 4,500 views.
As Yara continues to expand its virtual programing, the Yara Leadership Academy was launched in order to offer substantive content and leadership tools.
The first Yara Academy program “The Power of Profile: How to Build Your Brand” featured senior Iranian Canadian women from four different industries who provided tips and guidance as well as an in-depth interview with Delee Fromm, a career coach and published author who discussed how women can create their own professional brand.
Allyship is of great importance to Yara and our mission.
In celebration of Pride Month, Yara premiered a four-part web series featuring interviews with four members of the LGBTQ+ community in order to share some of the different perspectives and voices of that community and help lead important conversations within the larger community.
Yara’s Pride Conversations were hugely successful.
Mental health affects us all in different ways and varying degrees. It can no longer be a taboo topic. The only way to break the cycle of guilt and shame is through conversations.
Yara hosted a panel where four leaders openly discussed their personal experiences with mental health and offered tips on how to become more self-accepting, how to find coping mechanisms and in the post-covid world where anxiety is omnipresent, how to lead a balanced life.
Recognizing the desire of many to join boards, Yara hosted a panel on "Getting on Boards", partnering with Women Get on Board for this event which also featured leaders experienced in serving on the boards of private and public organizations.
